The French equipment manufacturer VALEO, whose reputation is well established, has worked for several years on the development of a revolutionary new motor, called the Smart e-Bike System, with which some of our new models will be equipped!
Notably our Suprême electric adult tricycle and our Ultime electric adult quadricycle, as well as our Cargo bikes.
What differentiates it from other motors?
Climbing very steep hills
Firstly, it is important to know that a classic mid-drive motor generally develops a torque between 40 and 90 Nm (BOSCH, SHIMANO, BAFANG…). Here, the torque is 130 Nm! This makes it the most powerful of all e-bikes. Thus, it allows for climbing very steep hills (14% effortlessly), even when starting from a standstill on the incline, without pedaling, thanks to a manual throttle limited to 6 km/h that benefits from 100% of the power.
Fully automatic
Furthermore, it is coupled with an EFFIGEAR integrated gearbox (7 speeds), which is fully automatic and predictive. Indeed, thanks to a multitude of sensors (incline, force, etc.) and a predictive algorithm, gear and assistance changes occur in less than 100 milliseconds. In other words, no more derailleurs and manual gear changes; here, it is like an automatic car, except the accelerator is your pedals! The motor will adapt to the situation based on the effort you provide, in order to assist you as naturally as possible.
To compare, when overtaking with an automatic car, if you press the accelerator to request power, it can downshift automatically. Well, the VALEO motor does the same! For example, if you are pedaling on flat ground and face a climb, the motor will adapt its assistance and speed so that you can clear this climb without any extra effort.
Greater range
Regarding the power supply, the 48V motor is also paired with a 48V battery, rather than the 36V batteries common on the market. This makes it much more efficient! It has a storage capacity of 630 Wh, allowing for a range of up to 90 km.
Reverse and anti-theft functions
Finally, a significant bonus: it features a reverse gear! This greatly facilitates maneuvers on a tricycle or a Cargo bike. It is also operated with the throttle trigger, which therefore also benefits from 100% of the power! It also features an anti-theft function, which disengages the pedals, causing them to spin freely.
Ultimately, this makes it a fully autonomous motor where you no longer have to worry about anything except pedaling. The assistance is as natural and smooth as possible. In addition to being the most powerful and sophisticated motor on the market, it is the easiest to use, and obviously always compliant with regulations!
